This tumor started developing in 2008, when she was just 15. It started as a small lump inside the nose and has continuously grown ever since, now nearly the size of her head. She’s in a lot of pain, is not able to eat very well because of the disfigurement and experiences nose bleeds frequently. She covers her face everywhere she goes and had to stop attending school. She does not remember her mother, who passed away when she was young, and her father died in 2009. She subsequently left her 4 siblings in the care of another relative in the Equateur province and she herself was taken in by her Aunt and Uncle in Kinshasa. They do not have any steady income and have 5 children of their own as well. They were so grateful to learn about Operation Smile and the hope for free treatment for their niece. She says that fortunately people do not really ostracize her in the community where she now lives and believes her condition is a disease that comes from God.
